A Brief History of Rome There were three periods of Roman history: 	the Monarchy  	753BC – 509BC 		the Republic    509BC – 27BC 			the Empire  27BC – 476AD
There were seven kings of Rome: 		Romulus NumaPompilius TullusHostilius AncusMarcius TarquiniusPriscus ServiusTullius TarquiniusSuperbus The Monarchy – 753BC – 509BC
Romulus was the first king of Rome and that  TarquiniusSuperbus(Tarquin the Proud) was the last. Read the powerpoint on the kings and have those notes handy for your Unit One assessment! Everyone should know that
The Republic is divided into two parts: The Early Republic – when the Romans conquered the country of Italy The Late Republic – when the Romans conquered many lands outside of Italy. The Republic – 509BC – 27BC
The Punic Wars – the wars between Rome and Carthage (a city in North Africa) There were 3 Punic Wars. During the second Punic War, Carthage was led by Hannibal, who was famous for having elephants as a part of his army and trying to march the over the Alps to attack Rome from the north.  His plan did not work. The Late Republic began with
The Republic ended  with the murder of Julius Caesar on the Ides of March,  March 15, 44 BC . The first emperor of Rome was Augustus.
The Roman Empire fell in  476 AD.
